Tree Friends
Tree Firends

Happy Spring to All My Art-loving Friends!

Even though it’s barely March, it won’t be long before we begin to see trees budding and flowers popping up.

I have been thinking and reading a lot about trees for some time now so this hand-printed image, “Friends,” seems appropriate because trees are our friends, as are all of you! I am currently working on a new series of large collages on canvas entitled “The Secret Lives of Trees.” My inspiration for this series comes from three books recommended by friends, Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard, The Hidden Lives of Trees by Peter Wohleben, and The Overstory by Richard Powers. We owe so much of our life sustainment to trees; hence, numerous cultures worldwide revere trees in their mythology.

If you would like to read more ideas and philosophy about trees here is a link to a wonderful weekly blog I receive The Marginalian by Maria Popova covers a wide range of inspirational ideas and always has poetry and essays about art.

Here is one of the many essays about trees in this issue – How to Be Less Harsh with Yourself (and Others): Ram Dass on the Spiritual Lessons of Trees
